This week Year 3 had a gymnastics session which was lead by the Okehampton Flyers. It was a fantastic session and great to see the children showing off their rolls, tucks, straddles and incredible flexibility. We are truly grateful for another amazing opportunity provided to us by an outside source.
The children have been busy making castles.
They have drawn their ideas, collected their resources and this week they began constructing their designs. The finished castles will have battlements, towers, a flag and hopefully a working drawbridge. We can't wait to see how they look when they are finished - watch this space! This week year 3 had a cricket session with Niall from Devon Cricket which we thoroughly enjoyed. Despite the horrendous weather conditions we persevered and were able to practice our bowling, batting and fielding. It was a super session and a big thankyou to Niall and Devon Cricket!
This term in year 3, we have being learning about items we find in a classroom (Dans ma salle de classe). To help cement our knowledge, our lesson involved playing a well know game called Loto aka Bingo! There were various prizes up for grabs including new equipment and 3 golden tickets to be won. We hope you all have a lovely half term :)
This week Year 3 have been writing a prequel story for a book that we have been reading in class called How to Live forever. They have produced some incredible stories so far and we are going to be creating and designing our own books next week. We are planning to send our finished copies off to the author for him to read.
This week Year 3 have been sequencing different sounds using a program called Scratch. We have tested out various sounds for our Sprite, learnt how to change and adapt our backgrounds and some basic movement of our Sprite. Scratch is free to use at home and I’m sure that the children would love to show off their programming skills.
We have read The Ugly Duckling as part of our work on Celebrating Differences.
We have learnt that name calling can be hurtful behaviour and the memory of the hurtful feeling can stay for a very long time. Hans Christian Anderson has written a powerful story that can teach us a lesson. Through drama we explored ideas that could be learnt from the story. The children discussed:
This week, the children in Year 3 have been working hard to learn their times tables facts.
We have been looking at the 2, 5 and 3 times tables. The children have been investigating the link between multiplication and division. They have used counters to show that division questions can also be solved by sharing or grouping. The children should now all have access to Times Tables Rockstar's and can work on their multiplication knowledge at home. |
