It was pleasure to take our first trip out of school and walk to Mrs Glover's farm. After saying Hello to the pigs we searched the hedgerows for blackberries. Back in class we created apple and blackberry crumbles to take home for our families to enjoy. This week we have been practising our sorting skills and talking about the sorting rules. We were excited to meet our new Year 5 buddies, we shared the collages we made from home.
The whole class have just completed their first full week of school and celebrated by receiving a certificate each in assembly. They have been exploring their new classroom and outdoor space and learning routines. Staff have been very impressed by how well they have all settled and taken to school life so quickly.
Well done Year R! We welcome a new class of reception children to start their school journey at South Tawton and what a brilliant start they have made so far.
Happy end of the year to this super class! Year R enjoyed their first school sports day on Wednesday. They all took part in every race, cheered each other on and had a great time.
It was the perfect weather on Thursday to release our 5 Painted Lady Butterflies. We have enjoyed watching them grow and change over the weeks and it was super to see them fly around our field.
As usual, there has been so much busy learning in Year R this week. In music, we made our own junk model instruments with Mrs Snell and played them during our music session. Eli brought in his 2 rabbits and Sorrel a toad for some real life show and tells. We have continued our bug learning by making our own bug information books. We were joined by our Year 5 buddies who helped us complete a bug hunt and record our findings. We then rounded off the week by celebrating Rainbow day with the whole school. This week we have been learning about doubling numbers. We have played dice and domino games to help us practise. During our PSED growing and changing focus we talked about how we have changed from being babies. Children then enjoyed looking after babies during Independent learning time. The class also remain very keen to learn more about bugs. We went around the school site, built our own bug houses and even completed a bug treasure hunt.
The children have been very eager to learn more about bugs. We started the week sharing things we knew and those we wanted to find out. We have spent the week investigating and learning new vocabulary. As us about the similarities and differences between butterflies and moths! We have enjoyed a Superhero theme over the last few weeks. This week Evil Pea has been playing tricks on us, but luckily there were plenty of Superheroes in class to defend us.
